South Dakota Senate Fails to Protect K-12 Students from CRT

Governor Kristi Noem has been one of the leading national figures in opposing Critical Race Theory and political indoctrination in American classrooms. In addition to being the first candidate in America to sign our 1776 Pledge, she signed two executive orders and introduced two bills aimed at protecting South Dakota’s public schools, including K-12 and higher education.

However, while her bills passed overwhelmingly in the South Dakota House, 20 Senators killed the K-12 effort on the final day of the legislative session. This will leave South Dakota’s public primary and secondary schools exposed in a way they should not be.

This fight is not over – there are battles to be won at the school board level, for example – but this Senate vote is a major setback for every South Dakotan who believes in education over indoctrination.

Below is a list of how every Senator voted. YEA means they voted to fight CRT, and NAY means they chose not to act.
